Neah Bay, Washington is a small coastal town located at the northwestern tip of the Olympic Peninsula. It sits within the Makah Indian Reservation and is home to the Makah Tribe, whose ancestral and cultural ties to the ocean and marine life are central to the community’s identity.
Geographic and Cultural Overview:
Location: Neah Bay lies near the entrance to the Strait of Juan de Fuca, where it meets the Pacific Ocean. It's surrounded by rugged coastline, lush forests, and abundant marine ecosystems.
Population: Around 1,000 residents, predominantly members of the Makah Tribe.
Cultural Significance: The ocean has sustained the Makah people for thousands of years. Fishing, whaling, and gathering shellfish are integral to their traditions.
